Message from the Dean

aft Law School is a member of The Taft University System. The Taft University System has been providing quality distance education programs to mature adults and professionals for over three decades. Few people would have projected when we offered our first continuing education programs to certified public accountants in 1976, that Taft Law School would evolve into one of the most respected nationally accredited distance learning law schools in the country.

The law school’s first degree program was the Juris Doctor Program, which was first offered in 1984. Since July 1987, over 70% of all Juris Doctor Program graduates who have sat for the California Bar Examination have passed. Taft Law School also offers a Juris Doctor-Executive Track Program designed for individuals who seek advanced knowledge of law but do not have a goal of becoming an attorney. The School also offers a Master of Laws (LL.M.) (with a concentration in Taxation) Program to attorneys who wish to develop advanced knowledge in the field of taxation. In 2007 a Master of Laws Program (with a concentration in American Jurisprudence) was added for attorneys educated outside of the United States. In 2008, The Taft University System separated its School of Law from William Howard Taft University’s Schools of Business and Education. While remaining under common control, Taft Law School is now an independent educational institution with its own Catalog and website.

In June 2003 William Howard Taft University (including its School of Law) was awarded accreditation by the Accrediting Commission of the Distance Education and Training Council. As a result of a review of a comprehensive self-study prepared by The Taft University System and a report prepared by the chairperson of a site review team, Taft Law School’s accreditation was re-affirmed in 2008.

Taft Law School is dedicated to Bernard E. Witkin (1904-95), a legendary legal scholar and a believer in life-long learning.

We invite you to contact our admissions staff if you have any questions.

Robert K. Strouse, J.D.
Dean, Taft Law School
(Robert K. Strouse is a graduate of McGeorge School of Law and member of the State Bar of California. He has over two decades of experience in private postsecondary education.)
