California Insurance Commissioner Steve Poizner announced that Tony Cignarale will serve as Deputy Commissioner of Consumer Services and Market Conduct, effective September 10, 2007. Since August 1, 2007, Cignarale has served as acting Deputy Commissioner of Consumer Services and Market Conduct. Cignarale replaced Woody Girion, who was recently named Deputy Commissioner of Rate Regulation.
Cignarale has served as Chief of the Consumer Services Division of the California Department Insurance since 2001. In this position, he directed the statewide activities of the Consumer Services Division, which includes responding and investigating consumer complaints and inquires relating to many lines of insurance. Cignarale has served the Department of Insurance for 15 years in several capacities, including Associate and Supervising Compliance Officer. In 2004, he was the recipient of the Insurance Commissioner's Leadership and Teamwork Award.
Cignarale is a graduate of Clarkson University, and holds a law Degree from William Howard Taft University, School of Law. Cignarale also achieved the Associate in Claims designation from the Insurance Institute of America and the Casualty Claims Law Specialist designation from the American Educational Institute.
"Tony has been a tremendous asset to the Department for the last fifteen years," said Commissioner Poizner. "I am pleased that he has accepted my offer to serve our department as Deputy Commissioner of Consumer Services and Market Conduct."
