CONGRESSWOMAN LORETTA SANCHEZ AWARDED HONORARY DEGREE FROM The Taft University System RECOGNIZING SERVICE TO PUBLIC EDUCATION

David L. Boyd (L) and Barry P. Resnick (R) present Congresswoman Lorretta Sanchez her honorary Doctor of Education degree in Santa Ana, Calif.

(SANTA ANA, Calif. February 22, 2005) Congresswoman Loretta Sanchez has been awarded the degree of Doctor of Education (Honoris Causa) by The Taft University System. David L. Boyd, president of the University, stated the award is in recognition of her support of public education.

Boyd noted that as a former member of the House Committee on Education and the Workforce, “Congresswoman Sanchez has worked to protect parental involvement initiatives and successfully saved the national gender equity in education program. In addition, she is believed to be one of the very few members of Congress to have visited every public school in her district in an effort to better understand the concerns of administrators, teachers, parents and students.”

Sanchez has spearheaded efforts to promote school safety, including the well-being of children walking and bicycling to and from local schools in Orange County. She is also the author of legislation to facilitate tax-free bonds to encourage school construction across the country.
