White Sox Executive and Former Baseball Super-Agent, Dennis Gilbert, Awarded Honorary Degree From The Taft University System Recognizing Philanthropic Efforts

(LOS ANGELES, Calif. June 1, 2004) During a pre-game ceremony Saturday at Dodger Stadium former super-agent, Dennis Gilbert was awarded an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters degree from The Taft University System. David L. Boyd, president of the University, stated the award is in recognition of Gilbert’s philanthropic efforts in support of inner city youth and the welfare of former baseball scouts. During his career as an agent, Gilbert’s clients included baseball’s most legendary players including Jose Canseco, Bret Saberhagen, George Brett, Barry Bonds, Bobby Bonilla and Mike Piazza.

Through personal and financial contributions, Dennis Gilbert Field was constructed on the campus of Los Angeles Southwest College in support of a program established by major league baseball, Reviving Baseball in Inner Cities. This effort resulted in a professional class field available not only to Los Angeles Southwest College but to local area youth programs. Gilbert has also been the driving force behind the Professional Baseball Scout Foundation, a nonprofit organization, established to assist scouts who have experienced financial or medical setbacks.
